Cherry Crest PTSAEditor handbook Practice site

New to Webflow

Practice: your first edit

Ten minutes on the practice site, using the three things you will do most: change words on a page, add a news post, and publish. Nothing here can reach the public website before launch.

  • TimeAbout 10 minutes

Not available yet. You can do this page once you have a Webflow sign-in, after handover.

After launch, skip this page or ask the site manager first: publishing would then go to the real website. TBD whether a separate practice copy is kept after launch.

Part 1: change a sentence

  1. Open the site from your Dashboard (how).
  2. Open the Pages panel and click Walk-a-Thon.
  3. Hover over a paragraph. A blue outline appears. Click it and type a test word at the end.
Screen recording, about 15 seconds: hovering a paragraph on Walk-a-Thon, the blue outline appearing, clicking in, typing "TEST".
  4. Click the phone device button at the top to see how it looks on a phone. Switch back.

Part 2: add a news post

  1. Open the CMS panel → News Posts → New item.
  2. Type a Name such as "Practice post – your name", pick any Category and today's Article date.
  3. Leave it as a draft. Do not publish it.

Part 3: publish and look

  1. Click Publish at top right and publish to the practice site.
  2. Open the practice Walk-a-Thon page. Your test word is there.
  3. Open practice All News. Your practice post is not there, because it was a draft. A whole-site publish skips drafts.
Screenshot: the practice Walk-a-Thon page in a normal browser tab with "TEST" visible at the end of the paragraph.

Part 4: clean up

The client and other volunteers browse the practice site, so put things back.

  1. Remove your test word from Walk-a-Thon and publish again.
  2. Delete your practice post in the CMS. (This is the one time deleting is fine: nothing links to it.)

That is the whole loop: edit → check on a phone → publish → look at the site. Every task in this handbook is a version of it. Pick one from the task list.
